Mourning Steve Jobs, Samsung & Google delay new Android

Looks like the iPhone 4S may be the last big product announcement for at least a week, as the tech world mourns the passing of Steve Jobs. Samsung and Google, which were due to make a splash at an industry-wide wireless technology event next week, has decided to delay the official release of its new product(s).

In a statement off the Samsung blog, the companies explain:
Samsung and Google have decided to postpone the Samsung Mobile Unpacked event during the CTIA in San Diego, previously scheduled for Oct. 11. Under the current circumstances, both parties have agreed that this is not the appropriate time for the announcement of a new product. We ask for your understanding regarding any inconvenience caused. We will announce a new date and venue in due course.
The two companies were expected to unveil the next Android update, Ice Cream Sandwich (likely to be called Android OS version 4.0) on a Samsung phone with rumored names such as the Nexus Prime or Droid Prime. Galaxy Nexus is another possibility, that could outshine the new Galaxy S II models that are so in demand now.
There is no indication that the products themselves will be delayed, just this official announcement.
The tributes to Jobs, who died Wednesday, won't be subsiding anytime soon. We'll update you when we hear from Samsung and Google about a new date and time for the release.
